Trivandrum is blessed with a rich colonial heritage, culinary delights, luminous regal past, cultural richness, and of course, the awe-inspiring beaches and hills ¬†Trivandrum is the anglicized name of Thiruvanthapuram. However after 1991,the city was renamed Thiruvananthapuram. This city has a tradition dating back to 1000 B.C . The city got its name from the idol residing in Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple-Ananta. The term ‘Thiruvananthapuram’ is derived from the Malayalam language thiru- anantha-puram which means ‘City of Lord Ananta.’ Ananta is the serpent Shesha on whom Lord Padmanabha (another form of Lord Vishnu) reclines.
